Tonic
==== Tonic ====
Can refer to the 1st note of a scale, the [[C Major Chord|Tonic Chord]] (the major chord built on the 1st note of the scale), or the harmonic function of many chords that bring release to tension. See [[Music Theory - Diatonic Chord Progressions]].

==== Transient ====
Transients are any form of sound outside of periodic oscillations (sustained pitches). For guitar, a transient is typically the collection of noises heard when attempting to play a note, using due to fretting or the fret buzz on the attack of notes. Thus, each played note has a transient as well as the note itself. Good technique can minimize the audibility of the transient portion relative to the note itself.
