Although these are written almost like two separate exercises, you can play them one into the other. When doing so, note that the highest and lowest notes will be doubled. You can play them doubled, or drop one so your transitions only hit the high and low notes once.

Ascend through the scale stepwise, but between each note, play the 4th above the last skip every other notethen return to it. In other wordsNote that with the pentatonic scale, asecend every third note is closest to a 4thP4 interval, descend but not necessarily a P4 - there is one M3 in there per octave. So we're ascending up a 3rdP4 or M3, ascend then descending a 4thM2 or m3, descend a 3rd..then repeat. For descending Descending we do 're doing the opposite: descend same - down a 4thP4/M3, ascend up a 3rd, descend a 4th, ascend a 3rd..M2/m3.
