Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier

While other amps tend to get their best metal tone by boosting treble and cutting bass, I find this amp responds best to a midrange boost at around 1,000 HZ. On other amps, this can make the tone smoother or even a bit "honk"-y, but here it gets really djenty and aggressive. I also find it gets its most aggressive metal tone when cranked up and getting some power amp distortion.

On models of this amp, it can also sound good to increase the bias of the amp, where available. It seems to add more crispness to the distortion as opposed to a grindy low-end punch.
