The resulting shape Where this logic fails is Pattern when we only know 2!strings but both strings use w-w patterns. Since there are 3 adjacent strings of w-w patterns, we cannnot determine which of the 2 possible sets of adjacent strings we are on relative to the pattern. We need just one more note to know where we are. Notice that 2 strings gives us 6/7 notes in the scale. But we can derive the entire scale from even less. Consider some 4 note patterns: |o|-|o|-|o| w-w |-|-|-|o|-| must be either a w-w or w-h to be "under" a w-w; given note indicates must be w-h |o|-|o|-|-| could be w-w or w-h; w-w would require w-w or w-h underneath but string is h-w; so must be w-h |-|o|-|o|-| must be h-w
